Krista Scott, Owner 246girlNope, no spiel here about a life-long desire to be a fashion designer or a Project Runway candidate. 246GIRL isn’t the fulfillment of a life-long dream...it’s simply a solution to a situation that was really starting to tick me off!

As a “Rubenesque woman,” I’ve spent most of my adult life trolling the fat lady aisles for garments that resembled clothes rather than tents. Thus, when I became pregnant with my first daughter, I was thrilled at the thought of selecting clothing for her that wasn’t restricted by size – she could be the stylin’ kid her mom never was. Problem was, those stylin' clothes I had imagined in my head didn’t exist for the most part. By the time my second daughter was born, I’d come to the sad conclusion that most stores held nothing but endless aisles of lace confections (itchy!)…cartoon movie characters (cheesy!)…or “come hither” tops (inappropriate outside the bedroom at any age!). On the rare occasion I’d find something I loved, I’d end up paying a lot of money for something I’d see on other kids.

I pondered sewing for my daughters  - I’d taught myself to sew at a fairly young age - but never seemed to have much time between them and teaching middle school. However, a move to Alaska and my sister showing up with meter after meter of beautiful fabric from trips to Holland made me reconsider (my sister always knows how to tempt me!). I whipped up a couple of dresses and the girls got raves whenever they wore them. I quickly got the clear impression that other people were as frustrated with what was out there as I was! So, I decided to start making a small number of dresses for other people who like bright colors and mixing patterns.

With a production staff of one (me), there won’t ever be a whole lot of inventory. The good thing is, there’s lots of quality control since the boss (also me) is looking over the production staff’s shoulder all the time. I make sure the garments look good and are something I would have my own girls proudly wear.

Check this website frequently as I’ll post new dresses upon completion. Production will vary according to hours of daylight, temperature, and whether the salmon are running!

Thanks for checking out the site!
